Pictures of Winsen
The Home- and Museum-Society Winsen (Luhe)
and Surroundings r.S.
offers quite a number of different activities to its more than 500 members..
In our Museum in the „Marstall“ (Stables) we organisel 5 to 7 Special Exhibitions
per year, and maintain a permanent exhibition covering the subject areas:
Town History, Johann Peter Eckermann, Pre- and Early History, and Culture of
the Elbe Marshlands. Our members, of course, enjoy free admission at any time!
The castle-tower, containing the exhibition "Reformation and 30-years‘ War"
can be visited by groups (after advance registration) with a competent guide at any time.
Each 2nd Thursday and 2nd Saturday
of a month at 11 o’clock
Guided Tours will start
for any interested singular person.
Additionally, talks are given on various subjects under the title "Klock halv fief",
on Saturdays at 16:30 hours, which are heralded by a cup of tea.
Also for our Little Ones we have something to offer – e.g. das plattdeutsche Kasperletheater,
which provides access to the Low-German language without effort.
Washdays at the Castle and guided tours for children complement our program.
For adults you will find Excursions on offer.
There is a series "Excursions in Marsh and Moraine", where interesting things in
the nearer environs can be experienced within one afternoon. Additionally
we also have daylong excursions and weekend tours in the program of our
Home- and Museum Society. Also, we offer guided tours of our home town.
There is a lot of fun during major activities, such as the "Day of the Open Historical Monument"
each 2nd Sunday in September, when you will always get the chance for an extensive guided
tour through the Castle!
Naturally we also attend to the classical objectives of a Museums:
To collect, to do research and to conserve. Ever and anon citizens of Winsen
donate photos or items of daily life, which we gratefully add to our inventory – even
when our storeroom is already bursting at the seams!
